The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled November 20 for its judgment on the seven-count terrorism charge filed by the Federal Government against Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Justice James Omotosho fixed the date after Kanu failed to open his defence within the six days the court had given him. Instead of proceeding with the defence, Kanu filed a fresh motion challenging the validity of the charges and questioning the court’s authority to try him.

Earlier, the court stood the case down for an hour after Kanu — who is now representing himself after dismissing his lawyers — said he intended to present his defence. But in the motion he eventually submitted, he argued that the law under which he was charged no longer exists.
According to Kanu, the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, which forms the basis of the charges against him, has already been repealed, making his trial improper.
