The Cross River State Government has announced the receipt of its share of palliatives from the National Food Reserve, distributed by the Federal Government to all 36 states. This was disclosed by Rev. James Anam, Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Calabar on Monday.
The items received include garri, maize, and rice. Specifically, the state received 14,040 bags of 50kg maize and 3,380 bags of 50kg garri from the national food reserve, and 14,000 bags of 25kg rice from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture. Anam assured that these items would be distributed equitably across the 18 local government areas of the state.
Commissioner for Information, Mr. Erasmus Ekpang, stated that a comprehensive committee had been established to oversee the fair distribution of the palliatives. This committee includes security agencies, SEMA, and various community groups, such as women, youth, and people with disabilities.
“The committee, which includes DSS, police, immigration, SEMA, women's groups, youth, and people with disabilities, will be physically present in all local governments during the distribution,” Ekpang said. He emphasized that the goal is to ensure that only the intended recipients receive the palliatives. The distribution date is yet to be determined.
