Dangote Group Denies Ownership of Truck in Fatal Crash, Vows Action on Logo Misuse

Accident

The Dangote Group has distanced itself from a truck involved in a fatal accident on the Aba–Abuja route, dismissing reports that the vehicle belonged to its fleet.

The truck, which bore Dangote’s brand logo, was later identified as belonging to Visco Investment Global Limited, a third-party operator.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the company said it was compelled to respond due to widespread misinformation.

“We are engaging with the appropriate agencies to find out why the truck was carrying our logo when it is not part of our fleet. Going forward, we will apply more scrutiny to the unauthorised use of our brand identity,” the statement read.

The conglomerate urged the public and media to avoid spreading unverified claims, stressing that tragedies should not be exploited for “malicious or financial gain.”

The company also pledged full cooperation with authorities investigating the crash, while reiterating its commitment to safety, integrity, and corporate responsibility.

This comes amid growing public scrutiny of Dangote-branded trucks, which have been linked to several fatal crashes in recent years.

In one recent case, Ruth Otabor, younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Ijeoma “Phyna” Otabor, died from injuries sustained after being hit by a truck allegedly tied to the company near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State.

Her family, through their lawyers, confirmed that she passed away six days after graduating, while they were still seeking justice and compensation.
