International award-winning singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has taken legal action against Sophia Momodu, the mother of his first child, Imade, seeking custody of their daughter. The case was filed by Davido’s legal team, led by Dr. Olaniyi Arije and Okey Barrah, at the Lagos State High Court on April 17, 2024.

In the originating motion, Davido is requesting the court to grant him joint custody of Miss Imade Adeleke. Alternatively, he seeks an order for unrestricted access to his daughter. The case, marked LD/1587PMC/2024, lists Davido as the applicant and Sophia Momodu as the sole respondent.

Davido supported his motion with a 44-paragraph affidavit, detailing his involvement and financial contributions to Imade's upbringing. He stated that although his relationship with Momodu ended years ago, he has consistently met his financial responsibilities, including paying for Imade's education, providing living accommodations, and ensuring transportation needs.

Davido explained that he had offered Momodu a N200 million apartment in a secure gated community in Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, which she declined. Instead, she demanded that he continue paying N5 million annually for a rented apartment. He also mentioned providing two vehicles for Momodu and Imade’s use: a Range Rover SUV and a Highlander SUV, along with an additional N5.8 million for repairs.

Despite his efforts, Davido claimed that Momodu has made "outlandish and utopian demands" and continues to inflict "unwarranted cruelty" on him. He highlighted her request for $800 per month for a nanny, totaling $19,600 annually, as part of these demands.

The ongoing tensions between Davido and Momodu date back several years. In 2021, Momodu publicly expressed her disappointment when their daughter, Imade, took Davido's last name instead of hers. She revealed her distress over the decision and the familial pressure she faced to ensure Imade bore her father's surname.

This legal move by Davido underscores the ongoing complexities and disputes in their co-parenting relationship. The court's decision on this matter will have significant implications for both parties and, most importantly, for the welfare of their daughter, Imade.
