Defence Headquarters Warns of Violence in Planned Nationwide Protest

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has issued a warning that the planned nationwide protest may be hijacked by “unscrupulous elements” intent on violent actions. Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen Edward Buba, highlighted that these elements are targeting individuals based on possessions such as smartphones, cars, houses, and businesses, as well as places of worship and markets.

The DHQ expressed concern that the protest could be driven by various factions, including opposition groups, terrorists, or others exploiting national frustrations. Buba compared the situation to recent violent protests in Kenya, emphasizing that the military is prepared to prevent any descent into anarchy.

The military has raised its alert level and will take action to prevent violent outbreaks. The DHQ urged citizens to focus on peaceful resolutions rather than escalating tensions, noting that the current economic hardships make this protest particularly sensitive.

“The constitution clearly defines the role of the military and the rights of citizens,” Buba said. “Our priority is to maintain order and ensure that violence does not disrupt the nation's stability.”
