Human Rights Lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, will be representing the students who were bullied at Lead British International School in Abuja, following the emergence of viral videos showing the incidents. Adeyanju stated that he, along with the parents of the victims, held a three-hour meeting with the Head of School to discuss the next steps.
The activist lawyer confirmed that the school management has decided to temporarily shut down the school for three days while investigations are ongoing. The videos, which circulated on social media on Monday, showed students physically assaulting their fellow classmates.
In one of the videos, a group of female students can be seen hitting another female student repeatedly, demanding to know the identity of a boy. The school's management released a statement announcing an investigation into the incident.
Adeyanju expressed his sadness over the incident and assured that justice would be served. He stated that he would be representing the bullied students legally and is working on obtaining a formal letter regarding the matter.
The Head of School, Abraham Ogunkanmbi, stated in a signed statement that the school has initiated an investigation and appointed a dedicated team to conduct a thorough inquiry. The school has also offered counselling to both the perpetrators and the victims' families and is implementing educational programmes to raise awareness about bullying.
