Delta Police Arrest Suspects After Officers Attacked in Oshimili North

The Delta State Police Command has arrested several suspects in connection with an attack on its officers at the boundary between Akukwu-Igbo and Ugbolu communities in Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.

The arrests followed a manhunt ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, who directed the immediate deployment of operatives to the area to restore order and reassure residents after the incident.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police swiftly mobilised officers to the affected communities after reports of the attack, leading to a sting operation in which some suspects linked to the incident were apprehended.

“The suspects are currently in custody and have provided useful information that is aiding ongoing investigations,” the statement said.

The attack reportedly occurred on January 30, 2026, during a routine stop-and-search operation along Ogbofu Road. A police team from the Akukwu-Igbo Division, led by an Assistant Superintendent of Police and four other officers, was ambushed by assailants armed with machetes.

During the attack, one of the officers sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to the Specialist Hospital in Asaba for urgent medical attention.

“The command will deal decisively with any individual or group that threatens public peace or attacks law enforcement officers,” he said.

The police command reassured residents of its commitment to maintaining safety, upholding the rule of law and protecting lives and property across the state. Members of the public were urged to remain calm and provide credible information to the police through the Control Room to help track down other suspects who are still at large.
