Producers of sachet water in Effurun, Jeddo, and Warri in Delta State have initiated a three-day strike starting from Friday, 15th March 2024. They argue that the strike is necessary "as the cost of production continues to weigh heavily on small business owners nationwide." This decision was announced in a statement signed by Cletus Ebohon, the coordinator of sachet water producers in the mentioned areas, and shared with journalists in Warri on Friday.
The statement indicates that the price of a bag of sachet water will increase from N350 to N450, effective Monday, March 18, 2024. The producers attribute this price adjustment to the rising costs of production, which have become unsustainable for their businesses.
The strike is seen as a plea for government intervention to ease the burden on small-scale producers grappling with high production costs. The producers hope that the strike will draw attention to their plight and prompt action to address the challenges facing their industry.
Efforts to reach government officials for comment on the situation have been unsuccessful thus far. However, the producers remain hopeful that their actions will lead to positive outcomes and relief for their businesses.
