The Department of State Services (DSS) has once again warned the public about a dismissed officer who is allegedly impersonating the agency to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.
In a statement shared on its official X handle, @OfficialDSSNG, on Sunday, the secret police identified the suspect as Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, a former staff member said to be involved in “unscrupulous activities” while using the name of the DSS.
“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby alerts members of the public of the activities of one Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, a dismissed staff,” the statement read.
“He is reportedly engaging in unscrupulous activities, including using the name of the Service to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
The agency advised Nigerians to avoid any dealings with the dismissed officer and to direct all official enquiries or complaints through the DSS’s verified communication channels.
This latest warning comes just four days after a similar alert about another ex-officer, Barry Donald, who was also accused of impersonating the Service for fraudulent purposes.
The DSS reiterated its commitment to maintaining professionalism and transparency, warning that anyone caught misusing its name or identity would face the full weight of the law.
Established in 1986, the DSS is Nigeria’s domestic intelligence and security agency, tasked with safeguarding internal security, preventing espionage, and countering threats to national stability.
