Easter Bloodshed: Deadly Attacks Rock Northern Nigeria, Leave Dozens Displaced

A series of violent attacks disrupted Easter celebrations across northern Nigeria, leaving at least 16 people dead and many others displaced in Benue State, Kaduna State, Katsina State, and Borno State.

In Benue, suspected armed herders attacked Mbalom, Mbatsada, and Agana communities in Gwer East Local Government Area. At least 10 people were killed, with several others injured as residents fled their homes. Local authorities described the нападение as unprovoked, raising concerns over persistent insecurity in the area.

Kaduna State also witnessed violence as terrorists stormed two churches in Ariko Village, Kachia Local Government Area, killing five worshippers and abducting 31 others during Easter services. Troops of the Nigerian Army later launched a swift operation, rescuing the abducted victims after engaging the attackers in a firefight.

In Katsina, renewed bandit attacks in Tangani and Sayaya communities led to the death of a police officer. The assailants reportedly targeted a police station and other facilities, leaving behind destruction and fear among residents.

Meanwhile, in Borno, suspected Boko Haram fighters attacked Awapul community in Chibok Local Government Area, burning homes and shops and forcing residents to flee. The incident followed earlier attacks in Damasak and Nganzai, where several security personnel and a civilian were killed.

Authorities say security operations are ongoing, with additional troops deployed in affected areas to prevent further attacks. However, the incidents have intensified concerns over safety, especially during major religious celebrations.

Residents across the affected states are calling for stronger protection, as fear and uncertainty continue to grip communities already struggling with repeated violence.
