Edo Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu Impeached Following Misconduct Probe

On Monday, the Edo House of Assembly impeached Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu following the adoption of the report from a seven-man investigative panel. The panel, led by Justice Stephen Omonua (Rtd) and set up by Chief Judge Justice Daniel Okungbowa, was tasked with probing allegations of misconduct against Shaibu. The panel found Shaibu guilty of disclosing official secrets.

The decision to impeach Shaibu was not taken lightly, as the House of Assembly deliberated extensively on the matter. Following the impeachment, the Edo House of Assembly has expressed its commitment to ensuring that the state's leadership remains transparent and accountable to the people. The Assembly has assured the public that due process was followed in the impeachment process and that it was carried out in accordance with the law.
