The political tide in Edo State has shifted as Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious in the governorship election, defeating Dr. Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This outcome marks the end of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s bid to install a successor, leaving his succession plan in ruins.
The election was closely contested, with both Okpebholo and Ighodalo hailing from Edo Central. However, APC's preparedness and internal unity, along with support from neighboring APC governors, helped the party regain control in the state, six years after losing power.
