Hon. Donald Okogbe, representing Akoko-Edo II (PDP), has strongly criticized his suspension, along with two other lawmakers, from the Edo State House of Assembly. The suspension, announced by Speaker Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, accused them of being influenced by external forces to cause chaos and destabilize the Assembly.
Okogbe, a close associate of former deputy governor Philip Shaibu, denied the allegations and condemned the lack of due process in their suspension. He stated that the Speaker did not follow the proper procedure for suspension, which requires a motion, a seconder, and a resolution by the Assembly members. Okogbe emphasized that their suspension was illegal and would not stand.
Regarding the allegation of bringing native doctors into the Assembly complex, Okogbe explained that a member had simply come to check his vehicle, as he had received information about his driver's activities. He dismissed any connection to the alleged juju scare, emphasizing that he had no involvement in such activities.
Okogbe also criticized the manner in which the Speaker adjourned the session following their suspension, noting that there was no proper motion for adjournment. He called for a respect for due process and the rule of law in the handling of their suspension and urged the Speaker to reconsider the decision.
