The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has reaffirmed its support for its governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, in the upcoming September 21 election, dismissing allegations made by former governor Adams Oshiomhole. The Asue/Ogie Campaign Management Council responded to Oshiomhole’s recent criticisms of Governor Godwin Obaseki and Ighodalo, accusing the former governor of spreading misinformation and engaging in political deception.

During an APC ward-to-ward campaign in Benin, Oshiomhole accused the Obaseki administration and Ighodalo of plotting to manipulate the election. He urged APC supporters to remain vigilant against potential threats to a peaceful and credible election. Oshiomhole also criticized Obaseki for alleged mismanagement of state resources and hinted at a possible investigation into the governor's administration if the APC wins the governorship race.

In response, Olu Martin, the Deputy Director General, Media, and Publicity of the Asue/Ogie Campaign Management Council, criticized Oshiomhole's tenure as governor, accusing him of corruption and political betrayal. Martin highlighted Governor Obaseki’s achievements, including the establishment of factories, refineries, and an independent power plant, as well as significant improvements in education and technology within the state.

The PDP also challenged the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to participate in a public debate to present his plans for the state, emphasizing the importance of holding candidates accountable for their promises.

As the election approaches, both parties continue to engage in a war of words, setting the stage for a closely watched gubernatorial race in Edo State.
