The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended Kayode Cole for issuing a death threat against its Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede. Cole was arrested in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, as confirmed by EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale.
The threat was made via Cole's Instagram handle, "1billionsecretss," in response to a post by popular Instagram blogger, Instablog9ja, on February 1, 2024. Instablog9ja had reported on money laundering activities by a religious sect, which the EFCC Chairman had linked to terrorism. In his comment, Cole stated that the EFCC chairman would be dead in six months, claiming later that he was merely seeking attention.
The EFCC is set to hand over Cole to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution. This incident comes after the EFCC Chairman's revelations at a dialogue on "Youth, Religion, and the Fight against Corruption," where he disclosed the commission's findings on money laundering by certain religious groups in Nigeria.
