Controversial social media personality and crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, is set to face interrogation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja over allegations of bribery and corruption. Bobrisky was apprehended on Thursday night while attempting to board an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight at Lagos' Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
Reports indicate that Bobrisky’s arrest was triggered by claims he made about bribing EFCC officials to drop money laundering charges against him. He allegedly accused the agency of accepting a N15 million bribe in a voice note shared by social commentator Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan. While the EFCC denied these accusations, a committee was established to investigate them further.
In response to the allegations, EFCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwajaren, warned that the crossdresser could face fresh charges if found guilty of making false accusations against the commission. “One could be charged for giving false information to the EFCC, let alone making false allegations against the commission,” Uwajaren remarked at a recent press briefing.
A source within the EFCC revealed that Bobrisky’s arrest followed his failure to respond to several summons from the commission, adding, “He who alleges must be ready to prove.” The source confirmed that Bobrisky would be flown to Abuja for further questioning, stressing that the accusations were "too weighty to allow slide."
EFCC's Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, verified the arrest, noting that Bobrisky was en route to Abuja for questioning as of Friday morning.
