The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, will officially leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the ruling party on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Enugu.
Speaking to journalists at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja on Friday, after his own swearing-in, the Enugu APC Caretaker Chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, revealed that Governor Mbah would be defecting alongside several lawmakers and key political figures from across the state.
During the inauguration of a seven-member caretaker committee for the Enugu chapter, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Deputy National Chairman (South), Emma Eneukwu, said the move was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the party’s structure and influence in the South-East.
Earlier in the week, the APC dissolved the Enugu State Executive Committee to create room for Mbah’s defection and the expected political realignment in the state.
Dr. Nwoye said, “For the past 10 years, Enugu State has been in the opposition. But all that will change on Tuesday, October 14, when the governor will officially declare for the APC.
“The governor is not coming alone. He’s coming with 260 ward councillors, 24 members of the House of Assembly, members of the National Assembly, and the entire state executive council.”
Addressing members of the caretaker committee, Prof. Yilwatda said the new team has a huge task ahead — to rebuild and expand the APC in Enugu.
He emphasized the importance of retaining loyal party members while welcoming new ones:
“We must not abandon those who have laboured and sacrificed for the party just because we are gaining new members. Everyone — whether they joined yesterday, today, or will join tomorrow — should enjoy equal rights and opportunities within the APC.”

Yilwatda added that as the 2027 general elections draw closer, the ruling party is focused on securing an even stronger victory.
He urged the committee to remain fair and united, avoiding factions or personal interests.
“The fact that you hold office means even your enemies must become your friends. Treat everyone equally and lead with integrity. That’s what keeps our party strong,” he said.
