Enugu Police Foil Robbery Attempt, Arrest Suspect

The Enugu State Police Command has foiled an attempted armed robbery and arrested a suspect near Agric Bank Bus Stop in the Independence Layout area of Enugu metropolis.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the suspect was apprehended following a swift response by police operatives to a distress call late at night.

Ndukwe said the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Chimuanya Oshim, was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on December 13 while trying to rob members of the public. Operatives from the Independence Layout Police Division reportedly caught him in the act while he was attacking a young man.

An imitation revolver pistol loaded with eight toy bullets was recovered from the suspect at the scene. He is currently in police custody and will be charged to court after the completion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mamman Giwa, commended the officers for their prompt action and urged them to continue their efforts to keep criminals out of Enugu. He also appealed to residents to support the police by providing timely and credible information that can help prevent crime.

Meanwhile, the command recently announced the arrest of six suspected cult members in the state. The suspects were allegedly caught by the Anti-Cultism Unit while attempting to force people into joining the Supreme Vikings Confraternity. Items recovered during the operation included a gun, cutlasses and alcoholic drinks.
