Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new 10-year contract, extending his stay until the summer of 2034. The club announced the deal on Friday, solidifying the 24-year-old Norwegian’s role as a cornerstone of their plans.
Haaland, who joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, has been instrumental in the club’s success. His initial contract was set to expire in 2027, but this extension reflects City’s confidence in his importance to their future ambitions.
Haaland's Delight
Expressing his excitement, Haaland said:
“I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club. Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters, and it’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody.”
He credited his teammates, manager Pep Guardiola, and the City staff for creating an exceptional environment:
“They have made this such a special place to be, and now I am City no matter what. I want to keep developing, keep working to get better, and help us achieve more success going forward.”
A Record-Breaking Journey
Since arriving at the Etihad, Haaland’s performances have been nothing short of sensational. In his debut season (2022/23), he scored 52 goals in all competitions, breaking the Premier League’s single-season scoring record with 36 league goals.
Haaland’s goals propelled City to a historic treble, securing the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League titles. Individually, he swept awards, including the PFA Player of the Year, Premier League Player of the Year, and the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year.
Despite an injury during the 2023/24 season, Haaland still managed 38 goals in 45 appearances, including 27 in the Premier League, earning him a second consecutive Golden Boot.
City's Commitment to Excellence
City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, underscored Haaland’s importance to the club:
“Everyone at the club is absolutely delighted that Erling has signed his new contract. His numbers and records speak for themselves, but it’s his dedication, professionalism, humility, and desire to keep improving that truly set him apart. If he continues this trajectory, he will create an incredible legacy at this football club.”
Current Season and Milestones
With 21 goals already in the 2024/25 season, Haaland has brought his tally to 111 goals in 126 appearances for City. In September, he became the 19th player in the club’s history to reach 100 goals, climbing to 15th on the all-time scoring list.
Haaland’s long-term commitment signals City’s intent to remain dominant in domestic and European football, with the prolific striker poised to play a central role in shaping their legacy.
