Federal Government Declares June 12 as Public Holiday for Democracy Day

The Federal Government has announced Wednesday, June 12 as a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day. The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement in a statement released on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Aishetu Ndayako.

In his message, Minister Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians on the celebration and urged everyone to reflect on the efforts of the nation's founding fathers. He emphasized the importance of maintaining Nigeria as a united, secure, peaceful, and indivisible entity.

“As we mark another Democracy Day in the history of our dear country, let us all reflect on the efforts of our founding fathers and ensure that Nigeria remains a united, secured, peaceful and indivisible entity,” the Minister stated.

Tunji-Ojo also highlighted President Bola Tinubu's commitment to implementing positive reforms aimed at reviving the nation’s economy and enhancing security. He encouraged Nigerians and friends of Nigeria to appreciate the progress made and to look forward to a brighter future for the country’s democracy.
