The Federal Government has pledged full support to the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in addressing the factors hindering the optimal use of ports and national assets in the eastern part of Nigeria. Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, made this commitment during the commissioning of the 4.8km road "D" project and marine crafts at the Onne Complex in Rivers State.
Oyetola highlighted that the road infrastructure and mooring boats constructed by the NPA exemplify the ministry's dedication to leveraging opportunities in the maritime sector. The six mooring boats, which facilitate the safe berthing and unberthing of vessels, reflect the government's commitment to enhancing maritime security.
The minister expressed optimism about the potential of the Onne Port, emphasizing the need for increased investment in port infrastructure. He mentioned ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts, including a significant investment of over N1 billion, which is nearing completion at the Onne Port.
Managing Director of NPA, Mohammed Bello-Koko, praised the Federal Government's commitment to revitalizing ports in the region. He highlighted the Phase 4B housing project as a crucial part of the untapped potential of the Onne Port Complex.
