A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to ten individuals detained in connection with the recent #EndBadGovernance protests. Each of the defendants was granted bail in the sum of N10 million.
The detainees are:
- Michael Tobiloba Adaramoye (Lenin), 28 years
- Adeyemi Abiodun Abayomi (Yomi), 34 years
- Suleiman Yakubu, 28 years
- Comrade Opaluwa Eleojo Simon, 50 years
- Buhari Lawal, 21 years
- Mosiu Sadiq, 28 years
- Bashir Bello (aka Murtala), 51 years
- Nurudeen Khamis, 47 years
- Abduldalam Zubair, 37 years
Justice Emeka Nwite, who presided over the case, granted bail on Wednesday following applications filed by the defendants' lawyers. The group faces charges brought by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), including treason and advocating for a military takeover.
In addition to the N10 million bail, the defendants must each provide one surety, a property owner residing in Abuja. The sureties are required to deposit property documents and swear to an affidavit of means. Both defendants and sureties must also deposit their international passports and three recent passport photographs with the court.
The judge has also imposed a restriction barring the defendants from participating in any public rallies during the course of their trial. They will remain in custody until they fulfill the bail conditions.
The court has adjourned the case until September 27 for the commencement of trial.
