The Federal Ministry of Education has directed all Vice-Chancellors of universities across Nigeria to ensure the protection of staff, students, and infrastructure ahead of the nationwide protest scheduled for August 1-10 over economic hardships.

In a circular issued on Monday by Acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Dr. Chris Maiyaki, universities were instructed to prioritize security measures. This follows concerns that the protests might escalate into violence, despite the acknowledged right to peaceful protest.
