Federal poly Ede dismisses campus shooting during SUG election

Ede

The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, has denied reports that there was a shooting incident on its campus allegedly carried out by suspected hoodlums.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Osogbo, the Acting Director of Information, Protocol, and Public Relations, Sola Lawal, said the rumours were completely false and not connected to the institution.

Lawal clarified that while there were reports of isolated violence in parts of the Odo-Eja area of Ede on Monday, November 3, 2025, the disturbances did not occur within or around the polytechnic premises.

“The attention of the management has been drawn to a false report of shootings within the Polytechnic environment. We want to make it clear that these claims are baseless. The violence some social media users referred to happened in Odo-Eja, not on campus,” the statement said.

He described the viral post by a Facebook user, who warned the public to avoid the polytechnic area, as misleading and capable of causing unnecessary panic among students, staff, and parents.

The school management also cautioned against any form of violence during the Students’ Union election, urging anyone not directly involved in the exercise to stay away from the election venue.

“Students are advised to remain law-abiding and avoid any act that may disrupt public peace. Anyone caught causing trouble will face strict disciplinary action in line with the laws of the Polytechnic,” the statement added.

The management assured the public that adequate security measures had been put in place before, during, and after the election to ensure a peaceful atmosphere.

Lawal reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to maintaining order and safety on campus, urging students and staff to go about their normal duties without fear.
