Nigerian international Bright Osayi-Samuel is among three Fenerbahce players summoned to a disciplinary hearing by the Turkish Football Federation following a confrontation with Trabzonspor fans, announced on Monday.
The incident occurred when home supporters stormed the pitch at Trabzonspor's stadium after Fenerbahce's 3-2 victory in the Super Lig match on March 17. The attacks unfolded as Fenerbahce players and coaching staff celebrated their win, during which goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic was punched in the face.
Osayi-Samuel, 26, reportedly punched a masked supporter who had run onto the pitch, while Dutch defender Jayden Oosterwolde allegedly kicked the same supporter. Another player and two club employees will also face the disciplinary body for involvement in a "fight," as stated by the TFF.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino strongly denounced the violence, calling it "absolutely unacceptable." Thirteen Trabzonspor supporters were arrested, with five placed in pre-trial detention. This incident is the latest in a series of violent events in Turkish football this season, including the suspension of the championship for a week when the president of Ankaragucu attacked a referee. Several Fenerbahce visits to Trabzon have also been marred by violence in recent years.
