FG Declares Friday, Sept 5 Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Mawlid

Minister

The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid, the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

A statement issued Wednesday by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of the Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and the diaspora, urging them to emulate the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion.

The government also encouraged Nigerians of all faiths to use the occasion to pray for peace, security, and national unity, while supporting ongoing efforts to foster development.

“The Minister of Interior wishes Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration,” the statement added.

Eid-ul-Mawlid, observed in Rabi’ al-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar, is traditionally marked with prayers, lectures, processions, and acts of charity. In Nigeria, it is recognised as a national holiday, reflecting the country’s large Muslim population and long tradition of observing major Islamic festivals.
