The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has announced the formation of task teams in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to audit the Ministry’s properties and lands, and oversee ground rent collection.
Permanent Secretary Dr. Shuaib Belgore disclosed this on Friday after an interactive session with Federal Controllers of Housing at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja. The task teams will include the Federal Controller in each state, state government representatives, and the Federal Housing Authority, with the Surveyor-General of the Federation as Chairman.
Belgore highlighted the initiative’s goal of enhancing oversight, ensuring quality, and improving efficiency in managing housing assets. He assured that necessary resources would be provided, with part of the ground rent revenue allocated for fieldwork. He also emphasized teamwork, diligence, and hands-on project management by Federal Controllers.
Addressing human resource challenges due to impending retirements, Belgore announced plans for professional engagements and training programs, urging Federal Controllers to mentor new officers. Controllers also called for the renewal of contracts for facility managers to prevent vandalism of housing projects.
