A massive fire erupted at Ajah Market near Alesh Bus Stop in Lekki, Lagos State, on Sunday night, destroying goods worth millions of naira. The fire, which began around 9 p.m., spread rapidly through several shops stocked with flammable items.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed that the agency coordinated efforts with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service to control the blaze. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, as the market was closed and unoccupied.
“The LASEMA Response Team, in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to adjacent buildings,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated. Efforts to extinguish the remaining flames and salvage items are ongoing, with an investigation underway to determine the cause.
