A fire outbreak on Wednesday razed a fuel station located along Old Akute Road in Obawole, Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area, Lagos State. The inferno reportedly started while a petrol tanker was offloading fuel, triggering a swift response from emergency services.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident, noting that it responded in coordination with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, which successfully extinguished the fire.
According to Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, emergency teams were deployed immediately after the alert was raised.
“Our people are on ground. It seems the fire started from a building behind the filling station,” Gawat wrote on X (formerly Twitter) in response to a concerned citizen who flagged the incident.
Photographs from the scene showed charred remains of the filling station and surrounding property, but emergency responders were able to bring the situation under control before further damage could occur.
There are no immediate reports of casualties, although authorities are expected to conduct a full investigation into the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
Residents of the Obawole-Iju Ishaga area have been urged to remain calm as emergency services continue mop-up operations.
