A fire broke out early this morning at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road in the Ogba area. Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident in a statement.

LASEMA received distress calls through its toll-free emergency lines at approximately 2:39 a.m. In response, the agency quickly activated its response team from the command and control centre in Alausa.

According to Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu, the fire engulfed one of the two-bedroom flats in Flat 5, Block 21, a three-storey building containing 16 two-bedroom flats. The fire originated in the children's room, reportedly due to a power surge.

Thanks to the prompt and coordinated efforts of LASEMA, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the fire was successfully contained. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported. However, the children's bedroom was completely destroyed, resulting in the loss of properties worth millions of naira.

Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu added that LASEMA has taken steps to educate the building's occupants on the proper use of electrical appliances to prevent future incidents.
