Former Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has urged students to actively participate in student government and campus politics, citing it as a valuable opportunity to learn about governance structures and decision-making processes. He made these remarks during a keynote address at the two-day Students Legislative Summit organized by the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin.
Represented at the event by the Majority Leader of the Ekiti State Assembly, Engr. Tolulope Ige, Fayemi emphasized the importance of participating in student councils, legislative bodies, and policy discussions to gain valuable experience in leadership and governance.
At the conclusion of the summit, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin described the event as a huge success, noting the impressive turnout and the insightful contributions of the resource persons. He expressed his satisfaction with the exposure the summit provided to students on the intricacies of lawmaking and its impact on nation-building.
The summit, which was attended by students from 65 tertiary institutions across Southwest Nigeria, featured experienced speakers, panelists, and moderators who delivered engaging presentations. Ogundoyin highlighted the importance of creating more training programs and avenues for youth to gain experience and contribute to national discourse.
During the final day of the event, delegates were divided into different syndicate groups to discuss key components of national development, including power, education, true federalism, healthcare, agriculture and food security, technology, employment and human capital development, environment, culture, and tourism. This interactive session allowed students to share their views and insights on these critical sectors of the economy.
