The former Director-General of Equatorial Guinea's National Financial Investigation Agency, Baltasar Engonga, has been detained in Black Beach Prison following the release of over 400 alleged sex tapes involving prominent individuals' spouses. His arrest came amid an ongoing fraud investigation, which led authorities to discover CDs reportedly containing footage of Engonga's encounters during a search of his properties.
President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo dismissed Engonga on November 4, citing "irregularities" in his conduct and "inappropriate family and social behavior." A viral video from Engonga’s recent court appearance showed him shackled in both hands and legs, highlighting the severity of his charges, which include corruption and embezzlement.
The scandal has gripped Equatorial Guinea as leaked footage circulates online, drawing intense media coverage and public scrutiny. French blog Afrikmatin and online newspaper UGStandard confirmed Engonga’s transfer to Malabo Central Prison following his official dismissal on November 6.
