Five former Inspectors General of Police have visited the Force Headquarters in Abuja to show support for the current Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
The Force New Media Officer, Aliyu Giwa, described the visit as purposeful, noting that it highlighted the importance of institutional backing for the police leadership.
According to him, the former IGPs — Aliyu Attah, Mike Okiro, Ogbonna Onovo, Suleiman Abba, and Usman Alkali Baba — were at the headquarters on Tuesday to express solidarity with Disu and his team.
Giwa said the retired police chiefs understand the weight of the office, having faced similar challenges during their time in charge. He noted that they are familiar with the demands, tough decisions, and public scrutiny that come with leading the force.
He added that the former IGPs offered their experience and mentorship, advising Disu to stay committed to ongoing reforms, lead with intelligence, protect officers, and uphold public trust.

Disu, in response, received the delegation with humility and acknowledged the legacy of those who came before him. He described the responsibility of leading the police as a privilege and reaffirmed his commitment to building on existing foundations.
Disu was sworn in as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police on March 4, 2026, by President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, following his confirmation by the Nigeria Police Council.
