Four soldiers were killed and five others injured when Boko Haram terrorists launched an attack on a military post in Ngamdu, along the Damaturu–Maiduguri highway in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, early Friday morning.
The incident reportedly occurred around 2:30 a.m.
Confirming the attack, the spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Uba Sani, said in a statement that the troops successfully repelled the terrorists after a fierce gun battle.
According to him, the insurgents used rocket-propelled grenades, armed drones, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in an attempt to overrun the military post.
“Despite the intensity of the attack, our troops held their ground and responded with superior firepower, inflicting heavy casualties on the terrorists,” Sani said.
He added that four soldiers were killed in action, while five others sustained injuries. Some military vehicles, including Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and gun trucks, were also damaged.
The terrorists, he said, tried to block reinforcements by planting IEDs along the Ngamdu–Damaturu highway, forcing a temporary closure of the route.
“Engineers swiftly cleared three IED-laden spots, and the road has since been reopened to both military and civilian movement,” the statement read.
Lt. Col. Sani further disclosed that troops were resupplied with ammunition and logistics to sustain operations and restore full mobility.
“Credible intelligence confirms that the terrorists suffered heavy losses, with reports of mass burials of about 15 bodies around Bula Wura, near Wasaram,” he said, assuring that normalcy has been restored and operations are ongoing to secure the area.

A supervisor with Borno Express, a commercial transport company, Muktar Yahaya, told reporters that several buses were delayed due to security checks in the area.
“Boko Haram launched an attack in Ngamdu. Many of our buses were stuck because of the military operations,” Yahaya said.
