The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has strongly denounced the reckless driving practices that led to a devastating collision claiming 19 lives in Kwara State. The incident, occurring on Thursday evening at Kanbi village along the Olooru new Jebba road, involved a blue Iveco trailer and a white Toyota Hiace bus. According to FRSC spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide, preliminary investigations attributed the crash to dangerous speeding and ill-advised overtaking maneuvers.

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed deep dismay over the incident, highlighting the tragic consequences of flouting traffic regulations. The casualties included 11 adult males, three adult females, three male children, and two female children. Additionally, five individuals sustained injuries and were rushed to Orisun Ayo Hospital for urgent medical care. Despite efforts by the FRSC and other agencies to enforce safety measures, such incidents underscore persistent challenges and disregard for road safety standards.
"In line with his 2024 agenda to significantly reduce road carnage, the Corps Marshal has directed Commanding Officers to escalate special patrol operations against reckless driving and other identified violations," stated the FRSC spokesperson. The agency remains committed to intensifying public awareness campaigns and joint task force efforts to ensure safer road practices across Nigeria.
