The Plateau State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Special Marshals has called for stronger security measures to protect its personnel and help them carry out their duties safely.

The State Coordinator of the Special Marshals, Abayomi Adegbami, made the appeal on Saturday during the 2025 Special Marshals Sectoral Workshop held at the FRSC headquarters in Jos.

Adegbami expressed concern about the dangers marshals face while on duty, noting that many have suffered injuries and, in some cases, lost their lives.

He said the workshop’s theme — Enhancing Security and Safety Strategies for Special Marshals — was timely, given the rising risks on Nigerian roads.

“It reflects our commitment to strengthening preventive and defensive measures against road hazards during patrols so we can ensure safer roads and save more lives,” he said.

The Sector Commander, Olajide Mogaji, also stressed the importance of the marshals’ work, adding that the corps would continue to support them to achieve their mandate of keeping Nigeria’s roads safe.

Zonal Commanding Officer, Joseph Udoabba, highlighted the need for closer collaboration between security agencies and Special Marshals to tackle emerging security threats.

Assistant Corps Marshal Godwin Alphonsus, who represented Deputy Corps Marshal Pauline Olaye, said Special Marshals must be equipped with the right skills and resources to respond effectively to today’s challenges.

The Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, commended the FRSC for its commitment to road safety. He noted the corps’ efforts to adopt digital tools to improve traffic mamanagement.

The Gbong Gwom Jos also expressed support for the FRSC’s proposal to acquire arms for traffic enforcement, saying this could help protect personnel amid rising insecurity on Nigerian roads.

“The proposal is timely, considering the growing threats on our roads. We must protect FRSC personnel as they carry out their duties,” he said. He also urged continued collaboration with other security agencies.

The workshop brought together key stakeholders to discuss practical strategies for improving the security and effectiveness of Special Marshal operations in Plateau State.
