Fuel marketers in Kano State have dramatically increased prices, with a litre now selling between N900 and N950. This sudden hike has led commercial tricycle operators across metropolitan areas to double their fares, causing widespread concern among residents.

The price surge follows closely on the heels of the nationwide #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest. Many filling stations in Kano city remain closed, while those that are open are overwhelmed with long queues of vehicles. Prior to the recent protests, fuel prices had already risen from N780 to N850 per litre.

Black market fuel dealers have also taken advantage of the situation, selling a litre for as much as N1,200, depending on the location. Motorists in the state have expressed deep concern over the escalating costs, which have added further strain to their daily lives.

Attempts to reach the state Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Gana Girge, for comment were unsuccessful as his calls did not connect.
