The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, has clarified that he was quoted out of context regarding his remarks about the Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Government, Tayo Ayinde, and his alleged involvement in financing Sunday Igboho's agitation for Yoruba nation.
In a recent interview, Adams stated that his comments about Ayinde in a viral voice note were based on hearsay and not verified information. He explained that the voice note was part of a private discussion with someone in the United States and was not intended for public consumption.
Adams emphasized, "The voice note issue was shocking...I mentioned that someone told me, though it wasn’t confirmed information, that Tayo Ayinde was the one financing Sunday Igboho’s activities through Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I was clear that it was unverified, but I relayed it during our private conversation."
He further expressed regret over the selective editing of the voice note, which led to misunderstandings and misinformation. Adams highlighted that Ayinde, known for his quiet nature, had become unintentionally embroiled in the situation.
Adams concluded, "The most unfortunate aspect is the issue with Tayo Ayinde, which I mentioned as something someone told me, but was not confirmed. It became public. I was just having a casual conversation with my friend on a WhatsApp call and I don’t know how the voice note got out."
