Former President Goodluck Jonathan expressed optimism that Nigeria will soon overcome its current socio-economic challenges. Speaking in Yenagoa at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Law Week, themed “The Legal Profession in a Time of Socio-Economic Uncertainty,” he emphasized the government's efforts to address these issues.

Represented by King Collins Daniel, Jonathan praised the Somina Johnbull-led NBA Yenagoa for organizing the event. He highlighted the importance of reflecting on governance to improve citizens' well-being, noting that economic hardships affect all sectors, not just the legal profession.

Jonathan referenced past economic challenges, such as those in the 1980s under the Structural Adjustment Programme, and recent global recessions, reminding attendees that collaborative efforts are needed to find solutions.

Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, reinforced that Nigeria's challenges are not unique and commended President Tinubu for bold decisions aimed at supporting vulnerable populations. He encouraged lawyers to seize opportunities, emphasizing hard work and honesty as keys to success. Justice Matilda Ayemieye also spoke, underscoring the critical role of legal practitioners in adapting to changes and upholding justice.
