Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has issued a strong warning, stating that he will not guarantee the safety of any individual or group visiting the state without prior approval.
The governor urged those contemplating such visits to reconsider their plans, emphasizing that their safety could not be assured without his knowledge.
In particular, Governor Alia cautioned individuals planning to visit the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in the state, stressing that they must first obtain permission from the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA) before making any such trips.
The warning was issued in a statement released on Monday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, under the title "Notice Regarding Unscheduled Visit to Benue State."
The statement read, in part: “The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, wishes to inform the public that he is not expecting any unapproved visitors to the state today. He is currently engaged in high-profile meetings with key state actors to discuss critical matters affecting our state.”
Governor Alia strongly advised against any unauthorized visits, particularly those that could lead to political gatherings or unrest, unless approved in advance. He also made it clear that anyone intending to visit Benue State without his awareness should reconsider their plans, as the safety of such individuals could not be guaranteed.
Additionally, the statement highlighted that any visits to the IDP camps in the state require written authorization from BSEMA. The Governor called on security agents and the public to adhere to these guidelines and ensure peace and order are maintained in the state.
