Edo State’s Governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, has promised to take the state to new heights when he assumes office. Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, was declared the winner of the closely contested election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, securing 291,667 votes. He defeated Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Asue Ighodalo, who polled 247,274 votes, and Labour Party's Olumide Akpata, who garnered 22,761 votes.

In his victory speech, Okpebholo thanked the people of Edo for trusting him with the mandate to govern, expressing his commitment to bring transformative development to the state. He assured the public that he would continue the work of former governor Adams Oshiomhole and follow the model set by Senate President Godswill Akpabio in Akwa Ibom State.

"I am very happy, and I thank the Edo people for choosing the right person to do the job," Okpebholo said. "Edo is rising, and I am here to develop and transform Edo into the great state it deserves to be."

With his victory, Okpebholo vowed to usher in a "new era" of progress and development, signaling the return of APC's leadership in Edo after six years of PDP rule.
