Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, and the Director of State Security Service, visited the site of a devastating fire along the Eleme axis of the East-West Road. The incident, which occurred around 7:30 pm, resulted in the loss of over 100 vehicles and lives.
Expressing shock at the extent of the damage, Governor Fubara vowed to compensate the victims and emphasized the need for caution when using the road. He cited the incident as a tragic consequence of negligence, particularly by the tanker conveying PMS that caused the fire.
Governor Fubara highlighted the importance of proper behavior by motorists to prevent such tragedies in the future. He instructed security agencies to provide a detailed report to determine how the government can assist the affected families and alleviate their suffering.
Assuring that the government would take necessary measures to control such incidents in the future, Governor Fubara urged all road users to exercise caution. He promised support to those affected by the tragic event.
