Governor Sheriff Oborevwori visited the Okuama community in Delta State, four days after the tragic killings of military officers and civilians. The purpose of the visit was to assess the extent of the destruction caused by the violence.
Despite the governor's visit, journalists were barred from covering his assessment tour of the troubled community by the military Joint Task Force. The JTF deployed an armoured personnel carrier tank to block major entries to Okuama, preventing both vehicular and human traffic, including media personnel, from entering.
Upon his arrival, Governor Oborevwori was received by Major General Jamaal Abdulsalam, the leader of the military JTF, and they proceeded to hold a closed-door meeting that lasted for about one hour. The purpose and details of their discussion were not disclosed to the public.
The visit comes amid heightened tensions in the community following the recent violence. The governor's assessment and the meeting with military officials are seen as part of efforts to restore peace and assess the security situation in Okuama.
