Grace Nation Church has firmly denied owing Omolayo Michael, who is demanding the return of two SUVs he gifted the church three years ago. In a statement, the church’s lawyer, Ilesanmi Akinwale, clarified that Michael voluntarily donated the vehicles during a service in 2021 to show gratitude for God's faithfulness in his life.
Akinwale stated that the church never solicited or requested any gifts from Michael. "Omolayo gave two cars to the church of his free will during a service in 2021, handing over the original documents to the church secretariat," the statement read.
The vehicles were unused for nearly three years until the church decided to sell one SUV and gift the other to a member. This decision was made to prevent the cars from deteriorating.
In March, Michael approached the church for financial assistance, claiming his business was struggling. The church tried to help him secure a bank loan. However, Michael later involved the police, alleging the church refused to return the SUVs and owed him N50 million for diesel supplies.
The church has received threats of negative media reports but stands by its commitment to support its members. "We will not allow anyone to damage our reputation and integrity through cheap blackmail, character assassination, and extortion," Akinwale emphasized.
