Unknown gunmen have abducted two residents of Ora-Igbomina, a community in Osun State located near the boundary with Kwara State.

Residents said the attackers struck shortly before midnight on Sunday, storming a private residence along Aran–Orin Road in the Papa area of Ora-Igbomina and kidnapping the victims.

This latest incident comes less than two months after a former Customs officer, Emmanuel Owolabi, was abducted in the same community. Owolabi was taken from in front of his house in December 2025 and later released in January 2026 at Oro Ago in Kwara State after his family reportedly paid a ransom running into millions of naira.

A resident, identified as Mulikat, said the abductors arrived around 11:30 p.m., firing gunshots into the air before dragging the two men into the bush.

“We heard gunshots around 11:30 p.m. The gunmen entered a house along Aran–Orin Road and took the two men away. Some people tried to pursue them, but they couldn’t follow them into the bush. They are suspected to be bandits,” she said.

Confirming the incident, the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the command had launched a search-and-rescue operation to secure the victims’ release.

According to him, the abduction occurred around 11:45 p.m. on Sunday. He explained that patrol officers had temporarily returned to their base due to heavy rainfall, during which time the attackers carried out the act.

“The victims, Tayese Adeyeye and Sunday Adewumi, were abducted during that period. Immediately the report got to us, our search-and-rescue teams moved in and have been combing the area,” Ojelabi said.
