Tragedy struck in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, as gunmen brutally murdered humanitarian worker Chris Terfa Akpu on Friday. The assailants attacked Akpu in his office at the Catholic Youth Centre Church, shooting him multiple times in the chest. He died instantly before help could arrive.
According to sources, the gunmen gained access to the office by shooting the security guard on duty and forcing a staff member to lead them to Akpu’s office, where he was executed. A close friend of the deceased, Stanley Chimin, revealed that Akpu had just returned from an official engagement outside the state before meeting his untimely death.

Akpu's body has been deposited at the morgue of Benue State University Teaching Hospital in Makurdi. As of the time of this report, the Benue Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Sewuese Anene, had not yet responded to inquiries regarding the incident.
