Gunmen stormed the Ilejemeje Local Government Area secretariat in Ẹda-Oniyọ, Ekiti State, causing panic and chaos among workers. The attackers, reportedly from the Obbo-Ayegunle community in neighbouring Kwara State, disrupted normal activities, forcing employees to flee for safety. During the attack, the gunmen fired several gunshots, resulting in one person sustaining serious injuries.
The motive behind the attack is still unclear, but it is believed to be linked to a long-standing land dispute between the two communities. The hoodlums vandalized the secretariat building and other property belonging to the council. This incident comes days after armed Yoruba Nation agitators invaded the Oyo State Government secretariat, highlighting the growing security challenges in the region.
The Eleda of Eda Oniyo community, Oba Awodipo Awolola, expressed concern over the lack of a police presence in the area. He called for increased security measures to prevent further attacks and restore peace in the community. Similarly, the Chairman of Ilejemaje Local Government, Mr. Alaba Dada, attributed the attacks to the ongoing land disputes and urged the Ekiti and Kwara State governments to intervene and resolve the issue for the sake of peace and harmony.
