Heavy security is in place at the Federal High Court Osogbo where Olalekan Oyeyemi, an associate of Governor Ademola Adeleke, is being tried for murder and terrorism. Oyeyemi faces a ten-count charge brought by the Inspector General of Police, accusing him of killing members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and engaging in terrorist activities. He has pleaded not guilty and is currently remanded in the Ife Correctional Facility.
Oyeyemi's lawyer, Edmund Biriomoni, filed a bail application on seven grounds, which was opposed by the prosecution counsel, Francis Osie, citing the Administration of Criminal Justice 2015. The presiding judge, Justice Emmanuel Ayoola, has adjourned the ruling on bail to today.
During the previous court hearing on March 19, 2024, three journalists were held hostage by hoodlums upset by the media coverage of the court proceedings. The journalists were later rescued by armed policemen from the court premises. Today, heavy security has been observed around the court, with armed policemen stationed at strategic locations both inside and outside the premises. Oyeyemi is present in court, and the ruling on bail has yet to commence at the time of this report.
