Tragedy Strikes as Lagos Director Dies Four Days to Retirement and 60th Birthday
A senior director with the Lagos State Government, Mrs. Serifat Talabi, has died just four days before her retirement from the civil service and her 60th birthday celebration.
Talabi was reportedly knocked down by a hit-and-run driver on Saturday while crossing the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the Redemption Camp in Ogun State.
According to a source within the Lagos State civil service, Talabi was the Director of Procurement at the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASSRA).
“She was trying to cross the expressway around the Redemption Camp when she was hit by a speeding vehicle. Efforts were made to rush her to the hospital, but she was confirmed dead on arrival,” the source said.
Another colleague revealed that Talabi was scheduled to retire on Monday, October 13, but the retirement and birthday event was postponed to Wednesday, October 22, to allow the agency’s General Manager to attend.
“She had already printed invitation cards for her send-off and 60th birthday celebration. Everyone was looking forward to it before the sad news broke,” the colleague said.
