The House of Representatives has urged the Ecological Project Office to immediately begin rehabilitating roads and bridges leading to the Bellview Airlines Flight 210 crash site in Ogun State. The Boeing 737-200, en route from Lagos to Abuja, crashed in 2005, killing all 117 passengers on board.
Lawmakers emphasized the need for immediate development of roads, dredging, and the construction of bridges across the Awela and Alapako Rivers. This would enable families of the victims to visit the crash site and pay their respects. The Committees on Ecological Funds, Appropriations, and Aviation were also tasked with including these infrastructure projects in the 2025 budget.
The motion, moved by Hon. Ibrahim Ayokunle Isiaka, highlighted the families' difficulties in accessing the site due to poor road conditions and collapsed bridges caused by flooding and erosion. The House expressed concern that these infrastructural challenges have hindered the traditional laying of wreaths and prayers at the site.
The resolution is a step toward honoring the memory of those lost in the tragic crash and providing closure for their families.
